Separating FACT from FICTION,Here are some KP facts…straight from the source!

Q: Kristina Pupo is independent, and not under a Record Label as of yet…but, does she have management support, and producers crafting her music? (She is a Pop singer after all ) :

A: Contrary to the popular assumption that a female who is trying to break the Pop genre, must in fact have no original thought… I control every aspect of my music. What made me first fall in love with music, was arranging compositions on my keyboard as a kid, and then coming up with lyrics, and performing the final product. Not much has changed, except now I work with better equipment, do vocals in professional studios, and perform shows for people other than my parents and their VHS camcorder. Every song on my upcoming album, I’ve produced.

Q: So what’s up with “Hey Sexy” ? Judging by the video, and lyrics in the hook, it seems like an obvious stab at making typical commercial/main stream music…is this what we have to look forward to on your album?:

A: No. Although I appreciate a lot of Main Stream Pop, I pride myself on versatility in my music. Although “Hey Sexy” may seem a predictable number, I do not write songs in hopes to shock or necessarily make a bold statement. My attempt is to share my feelings with an audience, and hopefully make some kind of connection through my lyrics, or my beats/rhythms/melodies. As most songs on the upcoming album are, “Hey Sexy,” is based on true events…it’s meant to be a light/fun song that reflects one of my sides. I believe even the most deep, introspective person, has a part of them that responds to the simplicity of going out with friends and laughing at complete nonsense, dancing at a party and not caring if you’re flailing your arms just a little too much because so is everyone else, eating ice cream at home and watching a horrible T.V show full of plot holes and corny soundtracks but hey…no one has to know. Mainstream hooks may be part of who I am but, it’s just ONE part.

Q:When did Kristina Pupo begin to work on her music career, what prompted it? Is she just another girl who moved to Hollywood because she thinks she’s pretty and needs attention…?:

A: My passion for music, as reiterated by BIO, began since I burst on the scene (I.E pushed out of the womb.) But, my actual cognitive choice to begin recording an album didn’t happen until after a serious break up and lots of “growing up.” Jekyll and Hyde was the first song I ever wrote and recorded with the specific intention of releasing an album. I hate to admit it but, it was heavily inspired by my previous tumultuous relationship…which leads me to believe that even the most terrible situations, may in fact happen to serve a larger purpose. I moved to “Hollywood” because it is one of the main industry locations for entertainment. I have since re-located to New York City, another large industry hub, and couldn’t be more excited to finish my album in such an energetic and creative environment!

P.S

I don’t think I’m just a pretty girl…and the attention I really want is yours…on my music please! :)

Q: Is it true Kristina Pupo was a street musician?:

A: True, and not past tense. Before getting work in Los Angeles, I used to take my acoustic guitar down to Hollywood Blvd. and play in front of a Starbucks for tips. I sustained myself for 3 months off of my tip money, and also enjoyed it as a way to test new songs. Honestly its great fun! You often get a crowd of overly eager tourists, or dancing children…and I had the privilege of signing a few T-Shirts and making some home video cameos. I still play the streets, subway stops, parks, often when I am strapped for cash or feel the need to play to an open audience…it’s definitely a liberating experience. Singing at the top of your lungs, struggling to deliver a musical message above the sounds of city traffic, it’s quite a challenge. I’m all about the challenge.

Q: Do you ever get nervous or embarrassed at a gig, or shooting a video?:

A: I think as an evolutionary trait, I’m slowly developing an immunity to embarrassment, being that I constantly fall into it. Nerves will always be part of any performance but, it’s typically more of a surge of excitement that only helps to propel you forward. It’s typically not too obvious when I am nervous, as long as I don’t have to hold a light object in my hands, such as paper…as my only tell tale sign is that my hands will tremble (but that could also be the coffee.) During the shooting of my most recent video, “Hey Sexy,” I had more embarrassing moments than I can remember! The very first scene shot, my top slipped off and I had to hear the exclamation of the camera man as he was watching the monitor carefully and caught the pop out moment. While doing my chair dance with the leading man of the video, I had an excellent moment when in the midst of dancing, part of my bra padding had some how creeped its way up and out of my dress on camera, it could’ve been a great shot…

Q: Speaking of your music videos,  why have a dance sequence if you’re not a professional dancer?:

A: Whoa! What do you mean I’m not a professional dancer?! (That’s a joke.) Seriously, I had, nor do I have any intention on trying to portray something that I’m not. The video concept takes place in a night club, as that is the scene I’m trying to set in the song. I knew I would have a dance sequence with professional dancers, and instead of awkwardly standing still next to them as they performed, I decided I’d do a FEW dance moves here and there, synchronizing with them on certain moments to make the entire scene cohesive. This is also because, I love to dance, it’s a part of my personality…but I can’t be taken seriously as a dancer, as I have NEVER had any dance training. I don’t regret the sequence at all, it was fun, and quite a learning experience to work with a professional choreographer. I also learned the importance of rehearsing in heels if you are planning to shoot a dance sequence in heels…(fail on my part.)
